Summertime Safety

Staying Safe This Summer

What a hot summer we have experienced in the CSRA so far this year.  Even my friends who enjoy a backyard pool have retreated into their air-conditioned homes.  I recently suggested that I wanted to take a day trip to one of my favorite beaches in a few weeks only to hear my husband reply, “maybe in September, when it cools down a bit.”

Let’s face it.  We have become creatures who are conditioned to be comfortable at all costs.  We love our climate controlled homes, offices and retail shops.  When it is 90 plus degrees outside for weeks, that comes at a cost!  Not just financially, when we get our electric bill in the mail, but also physically, when we decide to have that backyard BBQ or day at the beach with family and friends.

Heat-Related illnesses are on the rise.  Knowing what to look for and what to do early on can save someone pain, misery, and even life-threating complications.  Below you will see an informational chart about heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, sunburn, and heat rash. Prevention and staying hydrated is the key!

I have also included two essential oil DIY recipes you can easily make this summer.  One is a great spray that will not only keep you cool but will also help keep those annoying bugs away naturally.  The other is wonderful to apply on sunburned skin, to help promote healing and reduce the burning and itching associated with a fresh non-blistered sunburn.  It is also important to remember to only use essential oils that are 100% pure and have no additives.  If you are unsure about the oils you have, or wish to purchase safe and effective oils, then working with an aromatherapist is essential to ensure safety.  Being a Board-Certified Holistic Nurse and Aromatherapist has allowed me to expand my knowledge in this growing and fascinating field of study.  Here at Women’s Health Associates Aromatherapy, we are here to help you Be Your Best!

Summer, the outdoors, and time spent with friends and family are meant to be enjoyed.  Drink plenty of water, protect yourself and know the signs.

Stay safe and have a wonderful July 4th.  God Bless the USA!
