Our Staff
Cindy G. Besson, M.D.
Dr. Besson was born in Athens, GA and grew up in Thomasville. She graduated from the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia, where she also completed her internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Besson began her OB/GYN practice in Aiken in January of 1992. She is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as being a Certified Bone Densitometrist and Certified Laser Operator/Aesthetic. She and Dr. William Besson have three sons. She is very active in the community and her church activities. She has a special interest in supporting and improving public education.
Lisa Derrick
Business Office Manager
Lisa handles the accounts payable and accounts receivable. She also oversees medical billing and insurance filing. She has worked with Dr. Besson since 1993. Lisa and her husband have two sons, five grandbabies and one granddog.
Kim Askew
Registered Nurse
Kim graduated from the University of South Carolina in Aiken in 1997. A year later, she started working for Dr. Besson as her head medical nurse. She is a Certified Laser Operator/Aesthetic, Certified Laser Safety Officer, and Medical and Surgical Assistant.
Janice McIntosh
Medical Receptionist
Janice has been employed by Dr. Cindy Besson since 2001. She is an alumnus of Barnwell County High School. Janice has one son and daughter-in-law; she also has two grandsons.
Dora Kniphfer
Certified Nursing Assistant
Dora completed her Certified Nursing Assistant Program in 2012 and the Phlebotomy program in 2013 at Aiken Tech. She has been employed by Dr. Cindy Besson since November of 2015. Dora has three grown boys.
Lynn Tholborn
Registered Nurse- Aromatherapist
Lynn graduated from the University of South Carolina in Aiken with her nursing degree in 1987. She started working for Dr. Cindy Besson in 2018. Lynn is a Board Certified Holistic Nurse as well as a Level 2 Trained Certified Professional Aromatherapist. She and her husband share four adult children.
Julie Broome
Radiologic Technologist
Julie has been employed by Dr. Cindy Besson since 2021. She graduated from Midland Technical College with her degree in radiology.
Jennifer Shealy
Abdominal and OB/GYN Ultrasound Technician
Jennifer started working for Dr. Cindy Besson in 2021. She graduated from the University of Central Florida. She and her husband have two grown children together.
Katelyn Moxley
Medical Assistant
Katelyn joined Women’s Health Associates in June of 2022. After graduating from Midland Valley High School, she became a medical assistant and loves that this position gives her the opportunity to learn and grow. Katelyn enjoys getting to know the patients she serves and believes it is important to complete all her work in a timely manner.
